Sustainability at Weland

Working with sustainability is nothing new for us at Weland. We have always been at the vanguard of developments in terms of using resources and meeting customers’ expectations. We are always improving the efficiency of our production lines, ensuring that we have as little environmental impact as possible.

We are a family owned company with roots deeply embedded in Småland. A leading manufacturer and supplier of spiral staircases, straight flight staircases, railings, wheelchair ramps, gangways, gratings, and mezzanines. The first incarnation of our business came into the world in 1947, and the culture that was founded then continues to live on in many ways – our flexibility, our personal service, and our offering being front and centre. We work purposefully to develop our products and our sheet metal processing so that they are always in line with market expectations, and preferably one step ahead. All our production takes place in Smålandsstenar, where we have just over 100,000 m2 of factory space at our disposal and where we work according to the motto “efficient production with the smallest possible impact on our shared environment”.

Sustainability Report

As with all manufacturing companies, we have an environmental footprint. We want to minimise this impact by making well thought through material choices, sustainable energy use, and smart energy production.

Weland’s sustainability work is based on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They give us clear direction and guidance going forwards in order to achieve our own sustainability goals. The sustainability report shows how, in concrete terms, we tie our work into the sustainable development goals to achieve our own sustainability objectives. In its pages, you can also read about the status and see more information about both completed and ongoing sustainability projects.

For us, profitability and sustainability are inexorably linked with each other. We regard sustainability as one of many important investments to drive long term and profitable growth. It gives us the foundations on which we can continue to develop our business.

“The only way to go”

Sustainability is not a choice we can make or opt out of, it is the only choice we have. It is a great responsibility that we all share and that is filled with both opportunities and challenges along the way. When I look back on our sustainability work over the years, I see that we have achieved a lot and that makes me proud. At the same time, I am far from satisfied because I want so much more. It feels good to know that our employees always see opportunities before challenges – not least when it comes to finding sustainable solutions.

3 steps to sustainability

Swedish

All our development and manufacturing take place in Sweden. The fact that our products last for generations means that resources, such as materials and energy, can be spread throughout the entire lifecycle of the product, and that the total footprint is reduced for each year that the product is used. Naturally, our products do not contain environmentally hazardous substances that can harm people, animals, and nature.

Innovative

We know that the material represents a large part of the product’s total environmental impact, and that each little change in the choice of material and its use in production can make a massive difference. Along with efficient production and new, innovative technology, we ensure that our environmental impact at as low as possible.

Sustainable

We develop sustainable solutions and products that can last a long time. We track the development of new technology and innovations in materials development and combine our own expertise with carefully selected partners who share our sustainability goals.

Our sustainability goals

The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals are our signposts on the road towards social, economic, and environmental sustainability. We have decided to place the greatest emphasis on the goals where we have the greatest ability to make a difference, and our work has already begun.

Our employees

Weland should be a workplace where everyone can thrive. Employees are our most important resource and many have chosen to stay with us for decades. We are proud of that. The culture we have created together lays the groundwork for the business in more than one way. Partly, it’s about the collective knowledge and experience contributed by those who have worked at Weland for a long time. This enables us to build successful long-term relationships with both customers and suppliers. But our culture also enables new employees to quickly and naturally form part of the team – fresh expertise creates the ground in which we grow, and we warmly welcome new people who want to join us on our journey.
