50-metre steel walkway to Danderyd Hospital

When LWAB was commissioned to design and supply facades, windows, roof structures, and service and access routes for a sub-project at Danderyd Hospital, Weland was selected as the steel walkway supplier. The solution became an interconnected system of walkways made from grating, mounted on both roof and facades – a combination of function, quality, design, and sustainability over time.

The walkway on the roof of the hospital, with its length, design, and integrated lighting, is undeniably eye-catching.
– It’s an important part of the hospital’s logistics. It provides both access to the roof and serves as an access route to service areas, says Morgan Lefvert, who is Business Area Manager at LWAB.

Design is important

Although the roof walkway is not the most obvious feature of the building, the design is still important – both from a functional and an aesthetic perspective. In this project, Danderyd Hospital also chose to integrate lighting into the handrail, something that not only increases safety and security in darkness, but also contributes to making the overall impression more appealing.
– Design is important regardless of whether the walkway is, as in this case, sited on a roof or installed in a more exposed location. The solution needs to be well thought out, and the products used should fit well into the surrounding environment, says Morgan Lefvert of LWAB.

Prescribed walkway

LWAB specialises in what are referred to as “climate shells”, the outer protection of a building such as facades, roofs, windows, and doors that together create an effective protection against weather and wind. The company offers turnkey solutions for both new build and renovation projects throughout Sweden.

In addition to walkways for the hospital, LWAB has also bought spiral staircases with protective cages for a number of different construction and renovation projects over the years.
– We’ve been partners with Weland for many years now. It’s a collaborative relationship that works well and that we are more than satisfied with, says Lefvert.

In his opinion, the fact that Weland’s Flex walkway was a product that was specifically stated in the project documentation was only positive.
– Weland is synonymous with quality, and their Flex walkways are really easy to install. It saved us both time and work – and the time saving alone is something we really value in our projects, he says.

The long partnership between the two companies is something that is also valued by Weland.
– We’re delighted with the collaborative relationship we have with LWAB and appreciate the opportunity to be part of the Danderyd Hospital project. Our Flex walkway enabled us to offer a turnkey solution that met all the safety and service life requirements, says Johan Palm, Salesman at Weland AB.
